The Inaugural Mayor’s Youth Council (MYC) is seeking applicants for the 2018-2019 school year to provide Noblesville’s young people a voice in government and an active role in addressing youth issues. The program is free and open to students who live in or attend school in Noblesville. This includes students who attend public schools, private schools, or homeschooled students.
The council will select two incoming eighth graders and the remaining members will be filled by high school students. Noblesville Mayor John Ditslear said the council is looking for students of outstanding character to represent the voice of young people in city government.
“Serving on the Mayor’s Youth Council is a great way to start actively participating in city government at a young age,” said Ditslear. “Members have an opportunity to represent both their neighborhoods and their peers while making a real impact on the issues affecting youth in the city. The Mayor’s Youth Council allows teens to gain leadership experience and help make Noblesville a better place.”
MYC will advise the mayor on issues relevant to youth, learn about municipal government and the importance of civic participation and discuss and educate their peers on council initiatives. Youth Council members will meet on the first and third Tuesday of each month. In addition to these meetings, students may attend events and activities related to their initiatives and responsibilities.
Applications for the 2018-2019 school year must be postmarked or delivered by Friday, May 4.
