The REPORTER

The Hamilton Heights baseball team got a walk-off win over Jay County last Thursday by the score of 5-4.

The Huskies scored one run in each of the first two innings. Nate Hulen hit a sacrifice fly to score Tyson Upchurch for the first run, then Levi Chandler smacked a solo home run in the second inning.

The Patriots tied the game with two runs in the third inning. Heights scored another run in the fourth, as Cohen Boyd singled in Jackson Mikesell.

Adam Hughes hit a fifth-inning single to bring Josh Newton home and give the Huskies a 4-2 lead. Jay County scored twice in the top of the sixth to tie the game, and the score was still 4-4 in the bottom of the seventh. Newton led off that inning with a single, moved to second base on a wild pitch, then scored the winning run when Hughes sent a double into left field.

Hughes finished the game 3-for-4 at the plate. Kaden Lawson got the win in relief, pitching 2.1 innings with four strikeouts. Starter Hulen went 4.2 innings, tossing six strikeouts.

Heights won the second game 10-4. The Huskies began with three runs in the first inning: Logan Hickman doubled in Hulen and Austin Kappes, then scored on Pitts’ left field hit.

Luke Davis led off the second inning with a double, then Michael reached on error. Kappes came in to run for Michael, and both he and Davis were sent home by Hulen’s left field hit. That gave the Huskies a 5-0 lead.

Heights added two runs in the fourth inning. Davis scored on a Hulen sacrifice fly, then Kappes got home on Hughes’ center field hit. Chandler batted in two runs in the fifth inning, scoring Colt Johnson and Davis on a right field hit. The Huskies led 9-0 at that point.
