Huskies take over in third quarter, beat Shamrocks

Hamilton Heights came roaring back in the third quarter after trailing at halftime, and that sent the Huskies to a 64-57 all-county victory over Westfield Friday at the Heights’ gym.
The Shamrocks led 14-10 after the first quarter, with Caleb Welch scoring seven points. Westfield extended its lead to 25-17 by halftime; Braden Smith hit a couple of 3-pointers during the second period.
But the Huskies took control in the third quarter, outscoring the ‘Rocks 21-7 to take a 38-32 lead. AJ Field got hot, draining four 3s on his way to 14 points in the third. Heights added 26 more points in the fourth, with Gus Etchison scoring 10 points and Field adding another eight. Meanwhile, Westfield scored 25 in the fourth, including 10 points from Zach Banks.
Field led all scorers with 25 points, including five 3-pointers. Etchison added 18 and three triples, handed out five assists and pulled four rebounds. Hudson Hochstedler scored 11 points and Brent Pennington nailed two 3s.
Banks scored 17 points for Westfield, with Welch adding 15 points and Smith 11 points; all three made two 3-pointers. Smith and Eli Patchett both pulled five rebounds.
The Huskies are 12-6 and host Frankfort at 7:30 p.m. tonight. The Shamrocks are 9-8 and return to the Rock tonight to welcome Lafayette Jefferson, also a 7:30 p.m. start.
