Hamilton Heights lost both games of a doubleheader to Norwell Saturday at the Huskies’ field.
Heights dropped the first game 7-1. Norwell led 6-0 after two innings. The Huskies got their lone run in the third inning, when Luke Stohler’s center field hit sent Sam Allen home.
In the second game, Heights lost 3-2. Norwell scored in the first inning, but the Huskies scored two runs in the bottom of the third to take the lead. Lucas Letsinger scored the first run on Sam Fulton’s RBI groundout, then Stohler got home on Erik Malott’s sacrifice fly.
“Norwell hit the ball early in the first game and we could never get our bats going,” said Heights coach JR Moffatt. The coach credited his pitchers, sophomore Brody Piel and junior Dylan Zachary, with providing the Huskies a “solid day on the mound,” Piel threw four strikeouts and Zachary tossed three.
“They were able to bunch their hits together and in baseball that’s what you look for,” said Moffatt. “It’s not always how many, but the timing of when those hits come. They were able to put us away early.”
Game 2 turned out to be a pitcher’s duel, and Moffatt said sophomore Lucas Letsinger and junior Luke Thesier “did a great job of giving us a chance. We just have to hit. That’s the bottom line. In baseball you are not gonna win a lot when you struggle to score, simple as that.”
The Huskies are 2-4 and will play Tipton on Tuesday to begin a Hoosier Conference series. Moffatt said those games “are always fun.”
“If we keep getting rain maybe we will just challenge them in water polo,” said Moffatt.
