Hamilton Heights broke away from Lafayette Central Catholic on Friday, and cruised to a 41-21 victory at the Huskies’ stadium in the third-place game of the Hoosier Conference playoffs.

The game was tight in the first half. Heights got on the board first after Jaylyn Pugh caught a 12-yard touchdown pass from Bodie Derrer. The Knights responded with two touchdown throws of their own, and led 14-7 after the first quarter.

The Huskies came storming back, with Tyler Champion taking a five-yard Derrer pass into the end zone with 9:59 left. A minute and a half later, Kaleb Murray picked off an LCC pass and took that 58 yards to score. Teigan Scoles made all three extra-point kicks, and Heights was back up 21-14.

Central Catholic scored seconds later on a long run, and the score was 21-21. That would be the halftime score, but the second half was all Huskies.

Trey Ehman got in the act with a two-yard touchdown run early in the third period. Derrer then connected on his third TD of the game, tossing a 13-yarder to Evan Tilton. Scoles made two more kicks, and Heights led 35-21 after three. Ehman then added one more touchdown in the fourth quarter, on a 23-yard run.

Ehman had an outstanding game, gaining 225 yards on the ground. Derrer finished 12-of-24 with 129 yards and three touchdowns. Champion made six receptions.

The Huskies are 7-2 and play at Maconaquah next week in the first round of Sectional 28.
