Hamilton Heights steadily broke away from Maconaquah Friday, winning a road game 13-7.
The Huskies’ Ike Peterson singled in Cole Meyer in the top of the first inning for the game’s first score. Maconquah took a 4-1 lead in the bottom of the inning, but Heights answered with five second-inning runs.
Sam Rupe doubled home Luke Theiser and Meyer, then Reel’s double scored Rupe. Sam Fulton cracked a center field triple to score Issiac Hickok; Fulton would score on an error in the next at-bat.
Maconaquah scored two runs in the bottom of the second to tie the game at 6-6, but would not score again until the sixth inning. Meanwhile, Heights scored at least one run in every inning. Meyer’s third-inning double scored Sam Wahl and Theiser, and that gave the Huskies the lead for good.
“We finally started swinging the bats a little bit tonight,” said Heights coach JR Moffatt. “The last three games have been a struggle at the plate to say the least. We still have to cut down on the strikeouts but tonight was a good step in the right direction. I loved the fact that we scored in all seven innings. That’s really hard to do no matter who you play.”
Meyer finished the game 4-for-5 with three RBIs and three runs scored. Reel was 3-for-4 with three RBIs. On the mound, Meyer went six innings for the win, with nine strikeouts.
The Huskies are 2-3 for the season. Saturday’s Heights’ doubleheader with Norwell was canceled. The Huskies’ next game will be Tuesday when they host Tipton.
