Huskies pull away from Lebanon

Hamilton Heights rebounded from early-week disappointment with a resounding win over Lebanon Friday, by the score of 53-38.
The Huskies and the Tigers were tied at 14-14 after the first quarter, with MyKayla Moran scoring seven points. Heights outscored Lebanon in each of the next three periods. Ella Hickok had a big second quarter, scoring nine points for the Huskies and helping them to a 25-22 halftime lead.
Heights added to their advantage by the end of the third quarter, going up 39-34. The Huskies’ defense then took over in the fourth, allowing the Tigers only four points. Meanwhile, Heights pulled away thanks to free-throw shooting, as it made eight of 10 during the period.
Hickok and Moran each scored 15 points for the Huskies, while Camryn Runner added 10 points.
“Really proud of the girls tonight,” said Heights coach Keegan Cherry. “After our game earlier in the week, which we feel short of our standards, we challenged the girls following that game in practice. They responded big time. When teams try to take away a key weapon in Camryn Runner, other girls have to step up. MyKayla Moran was fantastic. Maybe some of her best high school minutes to date. Ella Hickok was a monster getting into the lane. And did a nice job being strong and finishing. Kaylee and Hadleigh were also great in their role. Hadleigh really battles defensively and Kaylee was good late game handling the ball late as we worked clock. Mia Shields also contributed. Overall, it was a great team win with contributions from all.”
The Huskies are 3-2 and play their next game on Tuesday at Greenfield-Central.
