Hamilton Heights was overwhelmed by West Lafayette 40-0 Friday, as the Huskies hosted the Red Devils in the Hoosier Conference championship game.
West Lafayette, ranked No. 2 in Class 3A, scored three touchdowns in a four-minute span during the middle part of the first quarter. Cannon Melchi got the first score on a 19-yard run, then Nate Brown took a blocked punt return 25 yards in to score. A one-yard run by Max Mullis put the Red Devils up 20-0 at the end of the first quarter.
The second quarter began with another West Lafayette touchdown, on a one-yard run by Collin Martin, who would later catch a touchdown pass. The Red Devils led 33-0 at halftime and added another touchdown late in the fourth.
Trey Ehman led the Heights rushing with 58 yards. Vincent Harley came in as quarterback and totaled 56 yards, with Gavin Bramel and Isaac Tuma each making two catches.
Despite the loss, the Huskies finish as overall runners-up in the Hoosier Conference. Heights finished its regular season with a 4-5 record and will host Bishop Chatard next Friday in the first round of Class 3A Sectional 28.
