The Hamilton Heights girls basketball team continued its great start to the season on Tuesday, overwhelming Greenfield-Central 50-26 in the first game at the Huskies’ renovated gymnasium.
Heights played a game worthy of the occasion, improving to 3-0, the best start for a Huskies girls team since the 2009-10 season. Heights led 15-6 after the first quarter, scoring all of its points on five 3-pointers: Two each from Jillian Osswald and Camryn Runner, and one from Ella Hickok.
The Huskies turned up its defense even more in the game’s middle quarters, allowing the Cougars only four points in the second and third periods. As a result, Heights led 25-10 at halftime and 45-14 after three quarters. Runner lit up the net in the third quarter, making four 3-pointers. Osswald had three 3s in the second half as well.
“Great team effort,” said Huskies coach Keegan Cherry. “Really proud of Jillian’s senior leadership. Our freshmen are playing tremendous team basketball and making plays within the flow of the game.”
Runner, one of those freshmen, scored 22 points and totaled six 3-pointers for the game. Osswald added 21 points, including five 3s.
Heights’ next game is Wednesday, Dec. 2, when it hosts Fishers.
