Huskies, Hawks drop openers

The Hamilton Heights baseball team fell at Bedford North Lawrence 6-1 on Monday to begin its season.

The Huskies scored their run in the fifth inning. Cohen Boyd hit a single into center field, then Tyson Upchurch came in to run for him and scored after Kyle Michael reached on an error. The Stars held Heights to two hits in the game; Michael also hit a center field single in the third inning.

Levi Chandler threw five strikeouts in three innings, with starter Owen Robey tossing two strikeouts in three innings, but only giving up two hits.

The Huskies host Jay County on Thursday for their first home game of the season.

Sheridan also dropped its opening game, falling 3-1 to Indianapolis Kings Homeschool on Tuesday.

The Kings scored their first run in the third inning. The Blackhawks scored in the fourth inning, Jack O’Land got home when Braden Bochner reached on an error. But the Kings scored two runs in the top of the sixth to get the win.

Dayne Voege pitched five innings, striking out eight against three hits. Keegan Stout threw two innings in relief, tossing five strikeouts and also allowing three hits.

Sheridan hosts Madison-Grant at 6 p.m. tonight.
