The Hamilton Heights baseball team staged a big comeback against Maconaquah on Friday, scoring a run in the ninth inning to win 6-5 in a home game.
The Braves led 5-0 midway through the second inning. The Huskies got on the board in the bottom of the second when John Irion’s left field hit brought in Kaleb Murray.
Heights put up three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. Murray got on base with a one-out triple, then Dillon Pitts doubled him home. Pitts later scored when Alex Rickey hit a sacrifice fly. Irion scored on an error to bring the Huskies within 5-4.
Another Heights sacrifice fly tied the game in the fifth inning, as Dean Mason brought in Phoenix Vondersaar. The score stayed at 5-5 until the bottom of the ninth: Vondersaar drew a walk, then Mason smacked a center field double to send him home.
Mason, Murray, Irion and Cooper Vondersaar all had two hits, with Phoenix Vondersaar, Nick Hulen and Pitts all getting one. Levi Chandler went six innings for the winning, striking out eight and allowing just two hits.
The Huskies are 4-4 and play at Clinton Prairie this morning.
