Huskies girls beat LCC for third place in conference

The Hamilton Heights girls basketball team clinched third place in the Hoosier Conference playoffs after a hard-fought 52-47 win over Lafayette Central Catholic Friday night at the Husky Dome.
Heights led 9-6 after the first quarter, but the Knights came back and took the lead, 25-23, by halftime. The Class 3A No. 10 Huskies regrouped and led 35-32 after three periods, then held on in the fourth quarter to run their win streak to nine consecutive games.
Central Catholic came into the Husky Dome on a five-game win streak, and made 11 3-pointers during the game.
“We didn’t play well, but found a way to get it done,” said Heights coach Keegan Cherry. “Great win for us against a team that had the two best players on the floor.”
Bayleigh Runner scored 12 points to lead the Huskies, with Lexi Branham and Lauryn Wiley both adding 10 points. Branham handed out six assists, while Wiley and Ana Collar both collected five rebounds.
