Hamilton Heights dropped its season opener Friday, falling on the road to Mount Vernon 17-13.
The Huskies scored first, with Brent Pennington nabbing an interception and taking it 29 yards into the end zone just four minutes into the game. Owen Powell followed that up with the extra point kick.
But the Marauders took over after that, scoring 17 unanswered points through the third quarter. Heights stopped the run early in the fourth when Blake Webel punched the ball in from the one-yard line, but Mount Vernon held the Huskies off.
Webel had a great night, rushing for 138 yards. Carter Compassi took on the quarterback duties and did well, finishing with 82 yards. Michael Cross had two catches for 55 yards.
Heights will host Kokomo next Friday.
