Huskies drop first division game

Hamilton Heights dropped its first Hoosier Conference East Division game of the season on Friday, falling at Western 35-20.
The Panthers jumped on top of the Huskies in the first quarter, going up 14-0 less than four minutes into the period. Heights came back early in the second quarter: Chance Yeager scored on a six-yard rushing touchdown, then Guy Griffey ran into the end zone from 12 yards out. Jonathan Glenn made both extra-point kicks.
Western quickly regained the lead, however, as two short touchdown runs by the Panthers’ Dylan Bryant pushed them ahead 28-14 at halftime. The Huskies had to wait until the fourth quarter to score again, when Gavin Bramel took an 18-yard pass from Bodie Derrer into the end zone with 35 seconds to go. But Western clinched the game on a 55-yard interception return with six seconds left.
Griffey completed six of 11 passing attempts for 90 yards, while Derrer was 5-of-11 for 86 yards. Bramel had five catches. Trey Ehman led the rushing with 60 yards.
Heights is 1-1 in division play and 3-2 overall. The Huskies return home next Friday to host Twin Lakes in a non-division game.
