Huskies beat Yorktown, reach final

The Hamilton Heights baseball team advanced to the Sectional 24 championship game at Yorktown on Thursday with a 4-3 win over the host Tigers.

The game was scoreless until the fifth inning, when both teams put up two runs. Playing as the visiting team, Heights scored its first run when Kaden Lawson got home after Nick Hulen hit a sacrifice fly. P.J. Wright singled in Logan Hickman for the Huskies’ second run.

Josh Newton put Heights ahead for good in the seventh inning, blasting a two-run home run into left field that also scored Levi Chandler. Yorktown scored a run with one out in the bottom of the seventh, but Hulen threw two strikeouts to finish the game.

Wright had two hits for the Huskies. Hulen pitched a complete game, totaling nine strikeouts.

Heights is 10-18 and plays Delta in the championship game at noon Monday. The Eagles beat Jay County 10-0 in the first semifinal.
