Eleven Hamilton County wrestlers qualified for next weekend’s state meet after their performances at Saturday’s New Castle semi-state.
Carmel finished fourth as a team with 85 points and qualified six athletes on to state. Suhas Chundi was the runner-up at 106 pounds. Brendan Mattingly (138) and Gabe Davin (170) both took third place in their respective divisions, while Brac Hooper (113), Jake Shafer (145) and Haakon Van Beynen (220) all finished fourth.
Hamilton Southeastern placed eighth in the team standings with 42 points and advanced two wrestlers to state. Leading the way was Andrew Irick, who won the 285-pound division. After taking his first match by fall, Irick won three tough decision matches, including a 4-3 win in the title match over Cathedral’s Holden Parsons. Irick is 34-1 for the season. Reece Luhmann finished as runner-up at 145 pounds and also heads to state.
Westfield took ninth place with 39 points and has two state qualifiers. Carson Eldred was the runner-up at 120 pounds, while Dylan Driver took third at 113.
Fishers’ J.D. Farrell finished as runner-up at 195 pounds, qualifying for state. Farrell’s performance gave the Tigers 22 team points, good for 15th place.
Cathedral dominated the team standings with 150 points, followed by Warren Central with 94.5 and Roncalli with 92.5.
The state meet begins Friday evening at Bankers Life Fieldhouse.
