The Hamilton Southeastern boys tennis team won the Fort Wayne Carroll Invitational Championship on Saturday.
The Royals beat Canterbury 4-1 in their first-round matchup, then edged out Homestead 3-2 in the semi-finals. In the championship, Southeastern defeated Cathedral 4-1.
“Overall, I thought we played really well today at all spots,” said HSE coach Kirk Webber. “We had a combined record of 11-4.”
Webber also noted that the Royals’ junior varsity players went undefeated in their exhibition matches.
“Our goal was to come home with the hardware, and that’s exactly what we did,” said Webber. “We defeated three really good opponents today, and the boys should be proud of the way they played against some strong competition.”
No. 3 singles Andrew Orme went unbeaten for Southeastern, winning his first two matches 6-0, 6-0, then taking care of his opponent from Cathedral 6-2, 6-1. The No. 2 doubles team of Evan Wang and Abhi Chaddha was also a perfect 3-0.
