HSE student EJ Shults wins Franklin College’s High School Art Competition

The Franklin College Art Department announced the winners of the third annual Franklin College High School Art Competition. High school students in grades 9 through 12 were invited to submit artwork for a juried exhibition in the following categories: 3D/ceramics, drawing, graphic arts, painting and photography.

The submitted artwork was displayed at Franklin College during the first week in November, with winners announced at a reception on Nov. 9. Cash prizes were awarded for each category.

The judges deemed EJ Shults’ entry in the drawing category to be the overall winner. He is a student at Hamilton Southeastern (HSE) High School.

Additional winners, who consented to releasing their information, included:

  • 3D/ceramics category: honorable mentions in this category included: Alexander Larkey of HSE High School, Callan Little of Mississinewa High School and Lyla Schilling of Whiteland Community High School.
  • Drawing category winner: Taylor McHenry of Franklin Community High School. Honorable mentions included: Lucy Gard of HSE High School, Hanna Maudlin of HSE High School, Riley Ross of Flora High School and Jax Scamahorn of HSE High School.
  • Graphic arts category winner: Alvin Wagerman of Franklin Community High School. Honorable mentions included Andre Ayala-Moran of Franklin Community High School and Gavin Tucker of HSE High School.
  • Painting category: honorable mentions included Maisey Kleinmaier, Riley Meggenhofen, and Addy Rogers, all of HSE High School.
  • Photography category: honorable mentions included Linus Avery of Mooresville High School, Emmaleigh Girman of Mooresville High School and Brayleigh White of Mooresville High School.

The students’ works were judged by Franklin College art professors Randi Frye, Barry Barnes, Denis Kelley and David Cunningham.
