Track and field: HSE girls win three-team meet

The Hamilton Southeastern girls track and field team ran away with a three-team meet on its home field on Wednesday.
The Royals scored 80 points to North Central’s 44 and Warren Central’s 43, scoring in 15 of the 16 events. Southeastern won eight of those events, including a 1-2-3-4 sweep of the 100 hurdles. Makenzie Loftin led the way in that event, with Willo Sheikh second, Carolina Pierce third and Ali Sorrells fourth.
Loftin also won the 300 hurdles event. Halle Hill cruised to victory in the 3200 run in a time of 10 minutes, 50.30 seconds, the second-fastest time in school history. Regan Wans was part of two victories, taking the 400 dash and also running on the victorious HSE 4×400 relay, with Alyssa Barker, Annice McFarland and Madisyn Etheredge.
Southeastern started the meet with a win in the 4×800 relay. Jehnea Mirro, Grace Newton, Maggie Powers and McFarland ran to victory for the Royals in that event. Newton picked up a second win by taking the 800 run and Ella Wilhelm was first in the pole vault.
