Howard D. Passage, 89, Carmel, passed away September 1, 2018. He was born on March 14, 1929 in Chillicothe, Ill., son of Howard D. and Melissa Spence Passage.
Howard was a 1951 graduate of Bradley University in Peoria, Ill. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. Howard was employed by Ernst & Ernst Accounting Firm from 1955 to 1971. He then joined First of America Bank as Regional Vice President before retiring in 1994.
As a lifetime fan of the Chicago Cubs, Howard wore his Cubs baseball cap often and was excited to cheer their World Series win. Howard also enjoyed playing golf. He was known as a man of integrity, very generous, kind and always willing to help anyone in need. He was gifted in many areas, but most importantly, Howard was a good husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather and good friend to many. Howard was a man of few words, yet when he spoke, people listened.
Howard’s memberships included the National Association of Accountants, Bank Administration Institute, Indianapolis Kiwanis Club, Woodland Country Club, past president of FEI, Carmel Masonic Lodge #421 and Murat Shrine.
In addition to his parents, Howard was preceded in death by his brother, Charles Passage; sister, Alta Merle Moreau and wife of 37 years, Dolores Sattler Passage.
Survivors include his wife, Anne Mills Passage; children, Jeffery (Mary) Passage, Jenny Passage Bailey; step-children, Sally (Mike) Matlock, Craig (Susan) Mills, Bruce (Kelly) Mills, David (Debbie) Mills and Scott (Jamie) Mills; two grandchildren, Faryn and Christen Bailey; nine step-grandchildren, Nick and Taylor Mills, Jordan, Connor and Brandon Mills, Avery Mills, Amy and Lori Passwater and Jennifer (Jon) Key; six step-great-grandchildren; and sister, Shirley Schultz.
Family and friends will gather at 9 a.m. on Friday, September 7, 2018 at Carmel United Methodist Church, of which Howard was an active member since 1959, and where the funeral service will begin at noon. Burial will follow in Carmel Cemetery.
In memory of Howard, donations may be made to Carmel United Methodist Church, 621 S. Rangeline Road. Envelopes will be available at the church.
