Carmel scored a big win in its regular-season finale on Tuesday, as the Class 4A No. 2 Greyhounds overwhelmed 4A No. 10 Crispus Attucks 64-33 on the road for their fourth straight win.
Carmel outscored the Tigers in each quarter. The Greyhounds led 18-10 after the first period, then turned up the defense in the second quarter, allowing Attucks only four points while scoring 22. As a result, Carmel led 40-14 at halftime, then 47-20 after three quarters.
Thirteen different players scored for the ‘Hounds. Burke Weldy hit four 3-pointers for 12 points, while Brian Waddell also scored 12 points. Charlie Williams collected seven rebounds and blocked three shots. Bryce Beery had six rebounds and four assists, and Peter Suder pulled five rebounds.
The Greyhounds are 20-2, marking the eighth time in the past 10 years that Carmel has reached 20 wins in a season. The ‘Hounds will host Sectional 8 next week; Carmel will play the winner of Tuesday’s Fishers-Hamilton Southeastern opening-round game next Friday (March 5) in the semi-finals.
