‘Hounds fight back before Panthers run away in eighth inning

Carmel fought back to tie North Central on Wednesday, but the Panthers ran away in the eighth inning to beat the Greyhounds 15-8 at Hartman Field.
Carmel took a 2-1 lead in the second inning, when Jack Van Remortel and Jackson Adams scored after Michael Uhrig reached on error. The ‘Hounds added to that lead in the third, with Alex Brooks getting home on a sacrifice fly by Tanner Simmons. Evan Petruzzi then hit a double to send Will Richter home.
North Central scored five runs in the top of the fourth to go ahead 6-4. Carmel got one run back in the bottom of that inning, as Brayden Lentz scored on a JD Rogers double.
The Panthers led 8-5 midway through the seventh, but the Greyhounds scored three in the bottom of the inning and send it to extra innings. Richter’s single scored Rogers, then Van Remortel hit a right field double to get Brooks home. Richter tied the game on Petruzzi’s RBI groundout. In the top of the eighth, however, North Central scored seven runs to clinch the game.
Van Remortel finished the game 2-for-4 at the plate.
Carmel is 8-12 and hosts Harrison at 6 p.m. today.
