Carmel and Lawrence North battled it out to the end at the Eric Clark Activity Center on Thursday, with the Class 4A No. 2 Wildcats edging out the 4A No. 7 Greyhounds 39-37 in a Metropolitan Conference game.
Carmel led 13-12 after the first quarter, then Lawrence North took the lead by halftime at 21-19. The Wildcats led 32-30 after three periods; the Greyhounds were still within 38-37 with 10 seconds left, but LN held on for the win.
Wil Leary scored 11 points for Carmel, including three 3-pointers. Jackson Jannsen added eight points and Brian Waddell collected six rebounds.
The Greyhounds are 3-2 in MIC play and 11-5 overall. Next up for Carmel is a Saturday afternoon game at Bishop Dwenger.
