Carmel dropped its regular-season finale at Lawrence Central 21-17 on Friday.
The IFCA No. 10 Greyhounds scored first on a 30-yard field goal by Lukas Kristhanmoorthy, the only points of the first quarter. The Bears got on the board early in the second quarter when Caron Parks made a 28-yard touchdown run, and the extra-point kick made it 7-3.
After that, it became a back-and-forth game. Colin Johnson took a 50-yard run into the end zone, and Kristhanmoorthy’s kick gave Carmel a 10-7 lead. That would be the halftime score.
A 22-yard touchdown pass put LC ahead 14-10 late in the third quarter. Carmel answered with 4:22 left when Christian Peterson caught a five-yard scoring pass from Anthony Coellner, and Kristhanmoorthy’s kick made it 17-14. But the Bears scored on a short pass with 25 seconds left to get the win.
Coellner was 15-of-26, totaling 97 throwing yards. Johnson rushed 12 times for 164 yards.
The Greyhounds finished the regular season 5-4 and host Westfield on Oct. 27 in the semifinals of Class 6A Sectional 4.
