Carmel’s boys have the top of the Metropolitan Conference leaderboard all to themselves after beating Center Grove 73-64 Friday night at the Eric Clark Activity Center.
The Greyhounds scored an upset over the Class 4A No. 8 Trojans, and thus improved to 3-0 in the MIC. The only other unbeaten team in the league is Warren Central at 2-0.
Carmel steadily built its lead over Center Grove and never allowed the Trojans to outscore it during a quarter. The ‘Hounds led 10-7 after the first period and 29-23 at halftime. Carmel then led 44-35 after three quarters.
Andrew Owens scored 21 points for the Greyhounds, including three 3-pointers, and also had six rebounds. Luke Heady added 17 points and was 11-of-12 from the free-throw line. John Michael Mulloy scored 14 points and grabbed six rebounds as well. Cole Jenkins collected six rebounds and handed out five assists.
Carmel is now 6-3 for the season and travels to Westfield tonight for a 7:30 p.m. game.
