Today, much of the emphasis in the political world is placed on national politics. We are swift to identify our national leaders serving in Washington, D.C., but oftentimes we do not give state and local leaders the respect and honor they deserve. There are countless men and women who have dedicated their lives to aiding and serving their communities.
Steve Dillinger is one such individual. He has earned the distinction of being the longest serving county commissioner in Indiana. He began his political career by serving on the Noblesville City Council for four years and then subsequently served on the Hamilton County Council for four years. He then was elected as a Hamilton County Commissioner in 1988 and has served in that capacity for over 30 years. His jurisdiction, District 2, is comprised of Noblesville, Fishers, Delaware Township, and Noblesville Township.
Dillinger was a very active youth at Noblesville High School where he was involved in a variety of sports including basketball, baseball, football, and track. He presently owns S. C. Dillinger & Associates Insurance Agency where he has worked for almost 50 years. He has been a lifelong member of Green Valley Church of Christ in Noblesville and a member of the local Chamber of Commerce. He was inducted into the Elementary Football Hall of Fame in 2010 after coaching the Noblesville Grinders, the elementary travel football team, for 25 years. Dillinger and his wife Renee have been blessed with a large family which includes five children, nine grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren.
Throughout his time in public service, Hamilton County has seen remarkable growth and experienced much progress. When he assumed this role, the population of Hamilton County was just over 100,000 and is currently over 350,000. In addition to this high rate of growth, Niche ranked Fishers as the seventh-best place to live in the United States in 2018. That same year, they ranked Hamilton County as the second-best county to live in for the entire country.
Dillinger has proven that he has Hamilton County’s best interests at heart. This is evident in the significant changes and advancements he has implemented. He and his team had a direct impact in building new 4-H fairground facilities, the Government and Judicial Center, Highway Department Garage and Administrative Offices, Humane Society building, complete with a spay neuter clinic, new health department and coroner’s offices, and public safety campus comprised of a new jail, juvenile centers, 911 communications center, and community corrections facility.
In addition, his administration also expanded the park, resurfaced county roads, restored the Hamilton County Courthouse and jail and transformed the jail into a museum, built large additions to Riverview Hospital, paved all gravel roads in the county, created the Solid Waste Board, built a recycle center, aided in bringing an Ivy Tech campus to Noblesville, zoned unincorporated areas of Hamilton County, aided in the construction of Lowe’s Way Fly Ramp Connection, and helped finance and compose the State Road 37 thoroughfare plan.
In addition to his accomplishments as county commissioner, Dillinger also holds other prominent positions in the community and state. He is currently the vice president of the Indianapolis Airport Authority Board and has served on different boards of several banks. In 2019, he was recognized as the Outstanding County Commissioner by the Indiana Association of County Commissioners. In addition, Congresswoman Susan Brooks listed his accomplishments in the Congressional Record.
Our cities, counties, states, and nation in its entirety are able to be maintained and operated efficiently because of the tireless work of men and women like Steve Dillinger. Thank you for your service.
