Hamilton County Sheriff Dennis Quakenbush recently participated in Prevail’s Community Reads Together program by reading one of his childhood favorite books, Dr. Seuss’s Green Eggs and Ham.
The program is one of Prevail’s prevention initiatives aimed at building a community of support and connection for young people. Prevail is compiling a virtual library of community members reading their favorite kids’ books on camera.
“Kids will get to see their sheriff and their teachers and their neighbors all taking time out of their day to share their favorite stories with them,” said Kelly Growden, Primary Prevention Specialist at Prevail. “Research shows that reading aloud with kids is one of the most impactful things we can do to promote language and literacy skills, cultivate kindness and empathy, and build connection between kids and caring adults. And of course, all of these things are crucial to preventing violence.”
