Noblesville resident, author and Reporter columnist Sharon McMahon would like to remind readers that her book, “Sweetie’s Scars: A Journey of Hurt, Hope and Healing” is still available on Amazon.
“I wrote this book to both commemorate my dog Sweetie, and to bring attention to the plight of dogs such as Sweetie who are often mistreated and left abandoned,” McMahon said. “Sweetie was a lucky dog in many respects as we were able to get to her before she succumbed to her injury, and we were beyond blessed to have her in our lives for many years. Many dogs are not this lucky, and end up living fearful and sad lives.”
McMahon indicates that all royalties received from the proceeds of the book are donated to the “Sweetie Rainbow Fund” which she established with the Humane Society of Hamilton County. The special fund helps to offset the steep costs of medical treatment and needs of senior dogs and cats which are brought into the shelter.
“Unfortunately there are people who just cannot undertake the care of a pet, which may include important medical needs, and they give up their pet to the Humane Society to be put up for adoption,” said McMahon. “There are significant costs to caring for the animal and making sure that they receive the medical care necessary to be adoptable.”
McMahon continued, “I wish to thank all the people who have purchased the book and encourage everyone to donate to your local Humane Society or shelter. Donations can always be made in memory of a loved one or in honor of someone special for birthdays, anniversaries or just because these abandoned pets need love and care. If you cannot physically adopt an animal you can always donate and thereby adopt one in your heart. The purchase of the book along with a donation to the Humane Society would be a thoughtful and lasting gift for someone special.”
McMahon is working on her next book which will portray her Revolutionary War Patriot ancestor, Samuel Howard, through the eyes of his daughter, Mary. All proceeds from that book with be donated to the Homeless Veterans Assistance Foundation in Indianapolis.
“Our local DAR Chapter, Horseshoe Prairie, often donates items to the Center for needs of our veterans who find themselves in circumstances which warrant our respect and help. I look forward to my next project.”
