Helen Ferne Liebengood

August 25, 1918 – January 1, 2023

Helen Ferne Liebengood, 104, passed away on Sunday, January 1, 2023. She was born on August 25, 1918, in Amistad, N.M., to the late Metta and Henry Herber.

The family moved to Guymon, Okla., in the Panhandle, where Helen graduated from high school in 1936. This area of Oklahoma was the heart of the dust bowl. After graduating from Hill’s Business College in Oklahoma City, she married Thomas Wesley Glaze. Helen was employed as Secretary to the Superintendent of Schools in Guymon until she moved to Culver, Ind., in 1954, where she was employed at Culver Military Academy as Personnel Director. On November 11, 1967, Helen married Dr. Howard B. Liebengood and they moved to Silver Lake, Ind., where she lived until moving to Yorktown, Ind., in 2011, and then to Fishers in 2022.

Helen is survived by her daughter, Tommye Lou Glaze Beavers, Miss Indiana 1960 (husband Robert) of Fishers; daughter-in-law, Gail Glaze (husband Martin) of West Lafayette; granddaughter, Stacey Raifsnider (husband Ross) of Fishers; two step-grandchildren, Anne (husband Adam) and John (wife London); wives of deceased grandson (Kelly) and deceased step-grandson (Serena); two nieces, Erika and Metta; four great-grandchildren, Chris, Kate, Kayla, and Jacob; four step-great-grandchildren, Harper, Jack, Henry, and Genevieve; and one great-great-grandson, Garret.

Those preceding Helen in death include her previous husbands, Thomas Glaze and Dr. Howard B. Liebengood; sister, Lou Zetty; son, Robert Glaze (aka Cowboy Bob); stepson, Howard S. Liebengood; grandson, Brad Beavers; step-grandson, Howard C. “Howie” Liebengood; and niece, Heidi Zetty.

A Celebration of Life will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, January 14, 2023, at Minnetrista Center, 1200 North Minnetrista Pkwy., Muncie, IN 47303.
