Heights volleyball emerges victorious over rival Tipton

The Hamilton Heights volleyball team won a rivalry match at Tipton Tuesday for its first away game of the season.

The Huskies won 25-15, 25-8, 25-13. Patience King played strong on the front row, making down the line hits and cross-court hits to score on the Blue Devils’ defense. Katie Brown also made solid defensive plays to stop Tipton’s offense.

This past weekend, Heights competed in the Western Boone tournament. The Huskies lost to the Stars in three sets for their opener, 25-22, 13-25, 15-11. Brown again played well on defense and serve receive.

Heights’ next opponent was Heritage Christian, and the Huskies won in a sweep, 25-14, 25-16. Emma Blanton dominated the middle with blocks and hits, while Kennedy Cherry backed her up on defense.

In its final match of the day, Heights fell to Mount Vernon, 25-23, 25-19. Lauren Lewis played with hustle and made several smart hits.

Sheridan dropped its first match of the season Tuesday, falling to Lebanon 25-15, 25-14, 25-23.

Trinity Parkin hit nine kills, with Kenzie Garner putting hitting six. Garner also had a career-high five solo blocks. Nova Cross handed out 11 assists, and was one of three Blackhawks players to hit an ace, joining Claudia Headlee and Parkin.

On defense, Parkin collected 11 digs, with Headlee getting 10. Meredith Krupp had nine digs, and Cross and Beth Adams both had seven.

Sheridan is 3-1 and plays tonight at International.
