Heights swimming has busy early week

The Hamilton Heights swim teams have been busy this week, with two dual meets on back-to-back days.
On Tuesday, the Huskies swept Eastern. The girls won 103-76, with eight event victories. Teegan Madara was first in the individual medley and butterfly, while Sophia Hulen won the 50 and 100 freestyles. Mady Hutcherson placed first in the 200 free, Mary Ella Bichey won the 500 free and Campbell Lively-Mason was a close second in diving. Heights won two relays: Kennedy Weaver, Bichey, Madara and Anna Jozsa were first in the medley relay and Jane Pache, Hutcherson, Weaver and Madara took the 400 free relay in 4:17.88.
The Huskies boys team won 117-61, claiming 10 of the 12 events. Eli VanHaaren was first in the IM and 500 free, while Grant Forrer won the 200 free. The duo then joined Owen VanHaaren and Alex Knepper to win the medley relay and Owen VanHaaren and Rudy Bowman to take the 400 free relay.
Owen VanHaaren also won the 50 free, while Knepper paced the breaststroke. Gabe Roosa was first in the backstroke. Nathan Cox won a close diving event, with Ethan Swart third.
On Wednesday, the Heights girls lost to a tough Tipton team by four points, with the Blue Devils winning on the final relay.
“Every single girl on this team swam great and really stepped up to this challenge,” said Huskies coach Jennifer Clarke. “We may not have won on paper, but everyone should be so proud of their performance.”
Heights began the meet with Pache, Madara, Weaver and Hutcherson out-touching Tipton to win the medley relay. Madara would win two more events, taking the IM and the breaststroke, the latter event in a new school record of 1:08.36. Other winners were Lively-Mason in diving, Weaver in the 500 free and Pache in the backstroke.
The Huskies boys team beat Tipton, claiming their first win over the Blue Devils in a few years.
“The boys looked strong in their second meet of the season with lots of great swims tonight,” said Clarke.
Cox won the diving in a new school record of 295.10 points. Owen VanHaaren was first in three events, pacing the IM and breaststroke after joining Eli VanHaaren, Forrer and Noah Shlater to win the medley relay.
Eli VanHaaren won the butterfly, Forrer was first in the backstroke, and the 200 free relay team of Shlater, Blake Blackhurst, Cole Martin and Knepper won that event.
