Hamilton Heights Elementary School’s (HHES) Jumpstart program kicked off July 19 thanks to a generous grant of $10,000 from Duke Energy.

The summer literacy program, started in 2017, is designed for Heights elementary students who can benefit from an early start with reading and social-emotional learning. This year’s Jumpstart Program will focus on first-grade students going into second grade. A maximum of 30 students can participate in this interactive summer Jumpstart Program that will be conducted for three hours daily for 10 days prior to the start of the school on Aug. 5.

“This program has made a measurable difference in helping students to be more prepared for the start of the new year,” said Julie Griffey, Hamilton Heights Elementary School Principal. “We are very thankful for Duke Energy’s support of this special program for the start of a new school year.”

“We are extremely grateful for Duke Energy’s support and commitment to our summer literacy and social-emotional efforts at the elementary school,” said Dr. Derek Arrowood, Hamilton Heights School Corporation Superintendent. “Duke Energy has been a strong partner to Hamilton Heights through its ongoing commitment to this invaluable literacy program since its inception.”

“Student-teacher connection is a huge part of student success,” said Mark LaBarr, Duke Energy Community Relations Manager. “This time for students’ reacclimating to school routines have proven to be highly effective. Duke Energy is honored to do its part to help support the journey of tomorrow through literacy programs like Jumpstart at Hamilton Heights today.”
