Hamilton Heights recently played host to a Civil Construction/Heavy Highway training day for educators to become familiar with curricular activities in concrete paving, utilities, heavy equipment operations, asphalt paving, surveying, erosion control, and construction inspections.
The training day included seven teachers from five high schools, including Heights, Garrett, Lapel, Penn, and New Palestine. Over 30 industry partners contributed to this interactive teacher training experience. Heights’ own Eric Fisher, CEA Master Teacher and NCCER Instructor, organized and helped lead the event to support the high demand for careers in Indiana’s construction industry.
Hamilton Heights has a strong Career in Technical Education (CTE) program. The district has been leading the way through innovative partnerships for work-based learning and apprenticeship opportunities through the first State Earn and Learn (SEAL) program designed for the construction industry. Since implementing the program in 2019, Heights’ graduation pathway in the horizontal and vertical construction trades continues to grow in size and scope.
