A track meet broke out at the Hamilton Heights-Lapel boys basketball game Friday night at the Bulldogs’ gym, which included another huge performance from one of the Huskies’ young stars.
Lapel won an incredible up-tempo game over the Huskies 92-85. The Bulldogs led 32-24 after the first quarter and 54-40 at halftime. The Huskies were able to close the gap slightly in the second half, but 24 fourth-quarter points from Lapel sealed the game.
Gus Etchison had an outrageous game, scoring 46 points – the second time the sophomore has breached the 40-point mark this season. Etchison’s quarter-by-quarter scoring was 13-12-11-10, which includes five 3-pointers. He also led the rebounds with eight and made five steals.
AJ Field added 20 points, scoring five in each period. Hudson Hochstedler danced near the edge of a triple-double, with nine points, nine assists and seven rebounds.
The Huskies’ junior varsity won 58-46, with four players in double figures.
Heights is 8-5 and is scheduled to play Western Boone at 6 p.m. tonight at the Hoosier Gym in Knightstown, weather permitting.
