Health Department partners with Riverview Health to offer backpack safety tips

Aug. 28 webinar geared toward parents & caregivers

The Hamilton County Health Department will play host to a free webinar on backpack safety for children at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 28 as part of a year-long series of monthly webinars aimed at addressing children’s health.

Carrying heavy backpacks or wearing them improperly can lead to serious back, shoulder, and neck injuries in children. To help parents and caregivers understand the importance of backpack safety, the Health Department has invited Dr. Kyle P. Stephenson, DO, an orthopedic surgeon from Riverview Health, to lead the session.

“Backpack-related injuries are more common than many people realize,” Dr. Stephenson said. “With the right information, parents can help their children avoid unnecessary pain and potential long-term damage. This webinar will provide practical tips on how to select the right backpack, properly pack it, and wear it correctly.”

Participants will have the opportunity to ask questions during the live session, making it an interactive and informative experience for all attendees.

Anyone interested in participating in the webinar is encouraged to register online at tinyurl.com/backpack-safety. For more information about the webinar series and upcoming topics, visit hamiltoncounty.in.gov/health and click on the Health Education tab.
