Guerin Catholic fell to Decatur Central, the No. 6-ranked team in Class 5A, 42-10 in a Friday road game.
The Golden Eagles scored the first points of the game, as Anthony Ferrucci caught a four-yard pass from Sam Miller. Jagger Albert then ran in a two-point conversion attempt, and Guerin Catholic led 8-0.
But after that, it was all Hawks. Decatur Central matched GC’s touchdown and conversion later in the quarter, then scored 13 points in the second period to take a 21-8 halftime lead. A long run resulted in a third-quarter score for the Hawks, followed by a long pass for a touchdown in the fourth quarter.
The Golden Eagles got two more points in the fourth period on a safety, but another long touchdown run pushed the score to its final margin.
Albert totaled 88 yards in 21 carries for Guerin Catholic. Elijah Edwards had three catches.
The Golden Eagles dropped to 2-4 after the loss. Guerin Catholic will host Culver Academies next Friday in a 7:30 p.m. start.
