‘Hawks reach final at Rossville

Sheridan advanced to the championship game of Class 1A Sectional 54 at Rossville by beating the host Hornets 4-3 Thursday night.
The Blackhawks got on the board right away, scoring two runs in the top of the first inning. Audrey Reed got on base with a left field hit, stole second base, then got home on a double from Cassie Vargas, who would later steal home plate to get Sheridan ahead 2-0.
Rossville took the lead in the fourth inning by scoring three runs. The ‘Hawks got one back in the top of the fifth, with Reed getting home on a single by Addyson Ream.
Reed scored the go-ahead run in the seventh inning. She hit a double into left field, then Ream batted her in again with a center field single. Bre Bouse then sealed the win for the Blackhawks by pitching a perfect bottom of the seventh.
Reed and Ream both finished the game 3-for-4 at the plate, while Vargas was 2-for-3. Bouse pitched a complete game, allowing only four hits and issuing no walks.
Sheridan is 10-11 for the season and will play No. 5-ranked Frontier at 7 p.m. for the sectional title.
