Hawks cruise past Gophers

Sheridan cruised into the championship game of Class 1A Sectional 46 with a 42-12 victory at Clinton Prairie on Friday, Oct. 31.

The Blackhawks led 14-6 after the first quarter. Alex Cravens ran in the first touchdown from 19 yards, then Hayden Alexander took a five-yard run into the end zone right before the end of the period.

Sheridan led 28-12 at halftime thanks to two quick touchdowns in the middle part of the second quarter. Cravens scored with a seven-yard run, followed by a 29-yard pass from Brock Hagan to Chance Spencer.

After a scoreless third quarter, the Hawks added two more touchdowns in the fourth. Alexander blasted off for a 62-yard TD run, then Jon Barnes punched the ball in from three yards in the last minute of the game.

Johnny Faupel made all six of his extra-point attempts. Alexander led the rushing with 170 yards.

Sheridan is 7-2 and hosts Cloverdale this Friday for the Sectional 46 championship.
