Sheridan picked up its first win of the season in dominant fashion Tuesday, traveling to Brebeuf Jesuit and returning with a 59-32 victory.
The Braves led the Blackhawks 11-10 after the first quarter, but Sheridan caught fire in the second period, outscoring Brebeuf 26-9. Berkley Williams and Kenzie Garner both scored seven points during that period, with Ashley Webel making two 3-pointers. Sheridan led 36-20 at halftime.
The ‘Hawks ramped up their defense even more in the third quarter, allowing Brebeuf only four points. Meanwhile, Cecilia Timme and Garner both added five points, and Sheridan held a 53-24 advantage after three. Garner then scored all six of the Blackhawks’ points in the fourth.
Garner, a freshman, totaled 20 points. Chaney Smith added 11 and Williams scored 10; Williams’ hustle and tight defense helped Sheridan to win, as did the Blackhawks’ balanced scoring.
Sheridan is 1-1 for the season and hosts Covenant Christian on Thursday.
