Hawks beat Golden Eagles in close all-county game

Sheridan won an all-county girls basketball game over Guerin Catholic 57-53 on Tuesday at the Eagles Nest.

The Class 2A No. 12 Blackhawks led 17-13 after one quarter. Cecilia Timme scored six points for Sheridan in that period, with Ava Bills scoring seven for the 3A Golden Eagles. Sheridan led 27-20 at halftime and held a 38-31 advantage after three quarters, with Caroline Ford getting eight points for Guerin Catholic.

The Golden Eagles scored 22 points in the fourth quarter, but the ‘Hawks held them off with 19 points in that period. Timme added another seven points, while Bills kept GC in it with seven points of her owns.

Timme finished the game with 17 points, followed by Shelby Eaton with 12 and Kenzie Garner with 10. Bills led all scorers with 18 points and Ford had 11 points.

Sheridan is 17-1 and plays a Hoosier Heartland Conference game Thursday at Delphi. The Golden Eagles are 9-9 and host Brebeuf Jesuit Friday in a Circle City Conference girls-boys doubleheader.
