Carmel’s Haylin Harris advanced to the Round of 32 after winning her first match at the USGA Women’s Amateur Wednesday at Old Waverly Golf Club in West Point, Miss.
Harris beat Australian Doey Choi 1 up. Harris never trailed in the match, and broke out of a tie by winning the sixth and seventh holes, going 2 up. Harris led 3 up with five holes to go, and held off a comeback by Choi, splitting the 18th hole to win the match.
Harris will play another Australian, Gabriela Ruffels, in this morning’s Round of 32. The match begins at 10:35 a.m. Eastern Time.
