Hamilton Heights High School Drama Department to present “The Groom Has Cold Feet”

The Groom Has Cold Feet is a cross between a western and a comedy murder mystery. This family-friendly play, produced by the Hamilton Heights High School Drama Department students, will not disappoint as the audience tries to figure out who killed a man that not too many are sorry is dead. Hamilton Heights students Hudson Holt (Milton), Maddy Pouch (Hazel Blossom), and Millie Inman (Darlene Steep) are pictured rehearsing a scene as they prepare for the opening performance on Friday, Nov. 15. Members of the Hamilton Heights High School Drama Department cordially invite the community to attend its live production of the murder mystery The Groom Has Cold Feet by Martin A. Follose.

With all the fun characters of a western and the twists and turns of a murder mystery, this family-friendly show is a real hoot. When the reviled Albert Webster turns up murdered the morning of his wedding to local sweetheart Kayla May Blossom, there’s no shortage of suspects in the sleepy town of Pine Grove. Luckily, there’s also no shortage of town gossips, each with her own theory acted out in hilarious slow-mo fashion for the audience to see.

Could it have been saloon girl Darleen, the last one to see Albert and the girl he dumped for Kayla May? Was it Virgil, the reluctant best man and ex-boyfriend of Kayla May? Maybe it was lonely Harley, who snuffed out Albert to steal his bride? How about Hazel, the about-to-be-evicted mother of the bride? It’s going to take all of Sheriff Tickle’s investigative skills, along with his sidekick daughter Sarah and extra help from the audience, to solve this animated mystery.

This production is led by the theatre class students under the direction of Brooks Myers, Hamilton Heights Theater Arts Teacher. Students contribute to all aspects of the production of the show. They have a voice in choosing the show, creating sets and costumes, creating the programs and posters, and acting on stage or working backstage to make the show complete to perform for an audience.

“Students chose this play because the setting is in the 1800s Old West,” said Brooks Myers, Hamilton Heights Theater Arts Teacher, of this year’s fall play. “This is the first time performing a western, which intrigued the students. It is also an audience-participation murder mystery with comedy – always a big hit with audiences.”

Plan to take in a show and enjoy local talent live on stage. Tickets are $5 and will be sold at the door starting 30 minutes before each performance (cash or check). All proceeds benefit the High School Drama Department. Hamilton Heights High School is located at 25802 State Road 19, Arcadia.
