Hamilton Heights grabs first conference win over Tipton

THE REPORTER

The Huskies made the short trip north to Tipton on Tuesday night and made their presence known to the host Blue Devils. The big innings added up and made for a short night on their way to their first Hoosier Conference East Division win, 18-5 in four innings.

Heights got going in the first with a two-run single by Kaylee Rhoton for a quick 2-0 score.

Tipton cut it to 2-1 in the home half of the first, but that wouldn’t last long. The Huskies plated seven over the next two innings to jump out to a 9-1 lead.

The Blue Devils fought back for four in the bottom of the third that made it 9-5 and that only fueled the Huskies.

Three singles got things going in the top of the fourth for an 11-5 count. Heights got it to double digits with a grand slam to center by Lily Roush to extend it to 15-5.

Kassidy Schakel put the icing on the cake for this first conference win for the Huskies. Schakel also homered to center for a two-run shot for the final score of 18-5.

Along with Roush and Schakel’s home runs, Heights got doubles from Rhoton, Taya Trosper, Emma Blanton and Lily Cash that helped produce runs.

Cash led all with four runs scored with two hits, while Trosper led all Huskies with three hits. Isabel Morrow scored three and Hailey Hall, Schakel, Morgan Ottinger and Blanton all scored twice.

Roush had five RBIs and was also joined by three others with multiple runs driven in, Rhoton, Schakel and Blanton.

The Huskies won their fourth in a row to improve to 7-3 (1-2 Hoosier East). The Blue Devils (2-6, 1-4 Hoosier East) will head to Arcadia on Wednesday for the second game of the conference series.
