On Saturday, Oct. 26, the Helping Veterans and Families (HVAF) facility located in the 900 block of North Pennsylvania Street in Indianapolis suffered catastrophic damage after a fire broke out in the building. At this location, HVAF provides housing for more than 50 homeless veterans, as well as operating a clothing and food pantry for veterans in need.

The Hamilton County Veterans Corporation (HCVC), founded in 2002, began assisting HVAF of Indiana in 2012 and has been a strong and active supporter of HVAF for over 10 years. This includes collecting various spring/winter coat/hat and mittens as well as clothing (socks, T-shirts, and undergarments) drives. HCVC has also held annual blanket and bike drives for veterans and their families.

Recognizing HVAF’s urgent need for assistance after the fire, HCVC’s officers and members immediately stepped up to make a $1,000 donation to help with the costs of finding temporary housing, food, and clothing for these displaced vets.

HVAF of Indiana is committed to helping all veterans and/or their families suffering from homelessness, unemployment, and psychological issues. This tremendous organization, and those they serve, now more than ever need their community’s help to recover from this devastating fire.

HCVC urges you, if possible, to please visit HVAFofIndiana.org to find out how you can make a monetary donation or donate food, clothing, and furniture. You are also encouraged to visit the HVAF of Indiana’s Amazon wish list at tinyurl.com/AmazonHVAF and help as you can.
