Jeff Schemmer leaves county for job with State of Indiana
Jeff Schemmer, Executive Director of Communications for Hamilton County, has resigned. He has accepted a job as Executive Director at the Indiana Statewide 9-1-1 Board, a quasi-state government agency.

“It has been a pleasure to be part of such a well-respected and forward-thinking emergency communications team,” Schemmer said. “It will be hard to say goodbye because I have such an incredible team here. They are like family.”
Schemmer came to Hamilton County in February 2019 from Bloomington, Ind., where he served as Communications Director for the Monroe County Emergency Dispatch Center. At his new post, Schemmer will oversee the operation of the statewide 9-1-1 network, implement innovative technology, and collect surcharges from all communication service providers to be distributed to local units of government.
“There is no other job I would consider leaving my current position for,” Schemmer added. “The Indiana 9-1-1 program has been recognized as one of the most advanced emergency services inter-networks in the United States. So, this new position will allow me to make a difference on a larger scale. I find comfort in knowing I still get to look after Hamilton County, just from a higher perch.”
County Commission Steve Dillinger said Schemmer has been instrumental in his leadership position as Director of 9-1-1 Communications.
“Public safety is a top priority in Hamilton County,” Dillinger said. “Jeff has always been driven to be the best and provide outstanding service to our citizens. We wish him well in his future endeavors and thank him for his service.”
Schemmer’s last day with Hamilton County will be May 6. A nationwide search for his successor is underway.
