For the second consecutive year, the Westfield gymnastics team is moving on to the regional round.
The Shamrocks placed third at the Lafayette Jefferson sectional last Saturday. Westfield totaled 99.425 points; Northwestern was the team champion with 104.45 and Harrison the runner-up with 104.05. The top three teams at each of the six sectionals across the state qualify for the regional.
Elianna Reynolds led the way for the ‘Rocks, placing sixth in the all-around with a 34.675. Reynolds finished in the top 10 in each of the different events, placing sixth in the uneven bars and floor exercise and tying for sixth on the vault. Her best score came in the floor exercise, where she posted a 9.10.
Guerin Catholic’s Lyrric Barnett advanced to the regional as an individual in two events. Barnett placed third on the vault with an 8.775 and fourth on the floor by scoring 9.25. The top six gymnasts in each event move on to the next round.
Westfield and GC’s Barnett will compete at the Valparaiso regional on Saturday.

Noblesville placed eighth as a team at the Franklin Central sectional, which took place last Friday at the Gymnastics Company, located near Franklin Central.
The Millers scored 96.40 as a team. Noblesville did have a gymnast advance to the regional: Valorey Bittles placed sixth on the balance beam with an 8.80, qualifying her for the Franklin Central regional, which takes place this Friday.
