Gymnastics: Millers take second at Western Invite, Fishers’ Jerrell wins all-around

For the first time in a long time, this can be said: Three Hamilton County gymnastics teams competed at the Western Invitational on Saturday.
Noblesville was there, of course. The Millers have had a successful team for years, and they had a good day at Western. Noblesville placed second as a team with a score of 89.525 points, close behind first-place Plymouth and its 89.875 points.
The Millers were led by Charlotte Moise, who placed seventh in the all-around with a score of 31.00. Moise also had the highest placing for Noblesville, taking fourth in the uneven bars. Hailey Knoll had the Millers’ highest score, with an 8.35 in the vault.
“It’s so far pretty good,” said Noblesville coach Jody Kiovsky. “We still have lots of room to grow.”
The coach said she was “very pleased with what we produced today.” She noted that the Millers struggled on bars and the balance beam.
“But those are all mistakes that could easily be fixed. We add back in those falls and those missed connections, and this is a team that could easily produce a score of 95,” said Kiovsky.
Fishers had several gymnasts compete at Western, and had a great day as well. Megan Jerrell won the all-around with a score of 33.725, while Samantha Inesesteinbahs took sixth with 31.15 points. Jerrell had good results in all four events, winning the uneven bars by scoring 7.85, then taking second in the vault and floor exercise and third on the beam.
Guerin Catholic’s Harleigh Abbott also competed at the meet, scoring a 26.15 in the all-around. Abbott’s best score was an 8.20 on the vault.
All three teams will be back in action Tuesday when Noblesville hosts a six-team meet. New Palestine, Frankton and Lapel will be there as well.
