Guerin Catholic used a solid pitching performance from Matt Parenteau to win its season opener, beating Frankton 4-1 at the Eagles Nest.
The Golden Eagles scored two runs each in the fourth and fifth innings. Max Engelking scored the first on a bases-loaded walk, then Keenan Taylor’s sacrifice fly sent home Luke Godfrey. In the fifth inning, Godfrey singled in Braden Reel, then Engelking got home on a Gavin Morrow sacrifice fly.
Meanwhile, Parenteau took care of business on the mound, throwing 11 strikeouts in five and two-thirds innings, while giving up three hits. King pitched the remaining inning and a third, striking out two.
“I thought we were really clean,” said Guerin Catholic coach Rich Andriole. “I thought defensively, we made the plays we had to make. Our pitching was real good. Our strike percentage was real high and I thought they controlled the pace and the tempo of the game.”
The Golden Eagles are next in action Wednesday, April 3, hosting Bishop Chatard in a Circle City Conference game.
