Guerin Catholic, Carmel, Sheridan all set to play for sectional titles

The Guerin Catholic girls soccer team is on the Class 2A Sectional 26 championship at Brebeuf Jesuit after beating No. 5 Bishop Chatard 3-0 in a Thursday semifinal game.

The No. 7-ranked Golden Eagles got on the board in the 24th minute, with Lily Dunlap kicking in GC’s first goal. Annie DeBone scored Guerin Catholic’s second goal two minutes later, with Madi Canavan providing the assist.

Jordan Laferriere put in the Golden Eagles’ third goal with under three minutes left. The win put Guerin Catholic at 8-4-4 for the season.

The Golden Eagles take on host and No. 9-ranked Brebeuf Jesuit at 2 p.m. for the sectional title.

Carmel advanced to the championship game of Class 3A Sectional 9 at Zionsville on Thursday after beating Lawrence North 4-0 in a semifinal game.

The No. 3-ranked Greyhounds improved to 13-3-2 with the win. Carmel plays No. 10 Cathedral in Saturday’s 2 p.m. championship game. The Irish beat No. 4 Westfield 1-0 in the other semifinal. The Shamrocks finished their season 11-5-2.

Sheridan will play for the Class 1A Sectional 38 championship at Lafayette Central Catholic after beating Rossville 10-0 in a Thursday semifinal game.

Avery Hills scored three goals for the No. 11-ranked Blackhawks, with Makaley Terry putting in two goals. Five more Sheridan players each scored one goal: Abby Dallas, Sadie Timme, Mac Smith, Cecilia Timme and Brielle Garner. Hills and Cecilia Timme both made one assist.

Sheridan improved to 12-4-1 and plays Faith Christian at 2 p.m. Saturday for the sectional title.

University lost to Covenant Christian 2-1 Thursday in the semifinals of Class 1A Sectional 41 at Heritage Christian.

Samantha Purdie scored the Trailblazers’ goal. Annie Ingersoll made seven goalkeeper saves.

University finished its season with a 7-8 record.
