St. Theodore Guerin High School has announced that it has again been recognized by the Cardinal Newman Society as one of the nation’s top Catholic high schools through the Catholic Education Honor Roll Program.
The Cardinal Newman Catholic Education Honor Roll is a national program recognizing schools committed to strong Catholic identity. Lumen Christi is the only other Central Indiana school to be recognized with this distinction. All of the school’s recognized commit to and model the Principles of Catholic Identity in Education.
Dr. Denise Donohue, coordinator of the Honor Roll for the Cardinal Newman Society, stated, “We are very pleased to have Guerin Catholic join in the nationally recognized ranks of excellence; this is a select group. Guerin Catholic has well demonstrated they are successful in meeting the key principles that guide Catholic education.”
A diocesan high school (Diocese of Lafayette-in-Indiana), Guerin Catholic is blessed with a full-time Chaplain and offers daily Mass to students as part of the school day, provides three opportunities each week for students and staff to participate in the Sacrament of Reconciliation, and hosts weekly adoration of the Blessed Sacrament in the school’s St. Joseph Chapel. Guerin Catholic students also attend Mass a minimum of once per week and meet every school day with their “Kairos” group for prayer time.
“Since our inception in 2004, Catholic identity has been at the forefront of everything we do,” said Guerin Catholic President Dr. John Atha. “Having a full-time chaplain has allowed us to integrate the Catholic worldview into academics, athletics, fine arts and all extracurriculars and clubs. Our goal at Guerin Catholic is to help our students discern who God is calling them to be and prepare them to go out into the world and live their faith and their vocations.”
A statement provided by the school said, “Thanks to all of the faculty, staff, students, alumni, families and the entire GC community who have embraced our Catholic identity and helped us achieve this recognition. We are humbled and will always continue to be guided by our mission and vision of Leading with Humility, Serving with Love and Trusting in God’s Providence.”
The Cardinal Newman Society has recognized Guerin Catholic as a top Catholic High School numerous times (2007, 2008-09, 2010-11, 2012-13, 2014). The current recognition as an honor roll school is a five-year distinction (2019-2024).
